Kaitawa Reserve replacement flying fox concept

4 Nov 2025

On Saturday afternoon, the Kāpiti Coast District Council parks and outdoor recreation team hosted the Kaitawa community at the local reserve.

Over a free sausage sizzle and conversation, the team introduced families to the replacement flying fox concept and new location.

The new flying fox will be a double cableway where users will be able to ‘fly’ in tandem.

Parks and outdoor recreation team leader Trevor Jackson says the concept was well received by the children who attended Saturday’s drop-in session.

“The concept was also shared with Paraparaumu Primary School,” says Mr Jackson.

“One class did some homework over the school holidays, where children and their families explored local playgrounds and created their own design concepts.

“We’re hoping to include these children in a small launch of the new double cableway once it’s installed around late February 2026.

“The removal of the old cableway is underway.”
