Ōtaki Transfer Station closed for general rubbish in November - update

27 Nov 2025

Work at the Ōtaki Transfer Station on Riverbank Road is progressing well, but a delay in the supply of key materials means we need a little more time to complete the upgrade.

The large rubbish bay will now remain closed for an additional week, with the site expected to fully reopen to the public from Saturday 6 December.

Kāpiti Coast District Council Property and Facilities Maintenance Manager Kelvin Irvine says the team is doing everything possible to keep the project moving.

“We really appreciate everyone’s patience as we make these important upgrades to keep the site safe and functioning well for both customers and contractors, especially heading into the busy holiday season,” says Mr Irvine.

During the closure, the Ōtaki Transfer Station will continue to accept refuse bags only, while green waste and recycling services remain available.

“We encourage people to make use of the Otaihanga Transfer Station and Resource Recovery Centre for other types of waste, or to wait until the Ōtaki facility is fully operational again,” Mr Irvine says.
