Kāpiti secures voice on sector advocacy group

28 May 2026, 9:31 AM

Kāpiti Coast District Council is welcoming the appointment of Councillor Steve Botica to Local Government New Zealand’s Responsive and Accountable Local Government System Advocacy Reference Group.

Mayor Janet Holborow said the appointment gives Kāpiti a stronger voice in national discussions about the future of local government.

“Councillor Botica brings practical real-world and local government experience to the table. His appointment helps ensure the value of councils is understood and that the interests of communities remain front and centre as the Government considers reform.”

LGNZ advocacy groups help shape the sector’s response to policy change and represent councils on key issues affecting communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Councillor Botica said he was pleased to take on the role and contribute to advocacy that supports strong local decision-making and better outcomes for communities.
